Ms. Cho’s STEM class!

On Monday the 5th graders did a fun activity during S.T.E.M. They formed into seven groups and made rafts out of certain materials given to them by their teacher, Ms. Cho. They received 3 straws, 2 cups, 3 popsicle sticks, a piece of foil, 2 rubber bands, and 5 toothpicks. Each group tried to get the most amount of paperclips in their rafts while being floated in water. After being given time to make their rafts the 5th graders had to test it out in a large bucket of water. Two groups were able to make it to 100 paper clips! However others don’t even make it to 10 paperclips. Group 7 scored the highest amount of paperclips with 100 ½! Once they almost maxed out the box of paper clips they lost the 100th one. Lucky Ms. Cho was able to find a jumbo paperclip. This counted as a paperclip and a half! Group 7 won the challenge! Group 1 was a very close competitor with a score of 100 paper clips.
