The Akita is a snow dog originally from the cold rocky mountains of Japan. They were bred to hunt and guard royalty. They are loyal and strong family dogs not to be frightened easily. Akitas have a strong and sturdy appearance with a soft thick undercoat making them well suited for cold, snowy climates. Hachi is a famous Akita known for how he waited every single day for his owner to get back from work at the train station, even after his owner passed away. Known as a symbol of protection and loyalty, when a child is born in Japan the parents usually receive a small statue of an Akita.
